The team of Biomedical Engineering institute had a pleasure to work with Mikael Henriksson, PhD student from the Biomedical Signal Processing Group at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Lund University, Sweden. The aim of Mikael‘s work is to develop an algorithm for signal quality evaluation in electrocardiogram signals with atrial fibrillation. Since motion artefacts can mistakenly be identified as atrial fibrillatory activity, recognition of noisy episodes is of special importance when automatic monitoring of atrial fibrillation properties is considered. Reliable detection of atrial fibrillatory activity would be useful in long-term monitoring applications, for example, when assessing the effects of antiarrhythmic drugs.
